About Charles Tracy
For over 50 years, iconic fashion photographer Charles Tracy has worked with the best international designers of all-times – Giorgio Armani, Calvin Klein, Missoni, Halston, Stephen Burrows, Geoffrey Beene, Oscar de La Renta, Bill Blass, for example – world-renowned supermodels — Christie Brinkley, Cindi Crawford, Naomi Cambell, Christy Turlington Burns, Patti Hanson, Debbie Dickinson, and Pat Cleveland to name a few – celebrities include Liza Minelli, Cher, Michael Douglas, top magazines such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Interview, Cosmopolitan, Italian Bazaar, French Vogue, and most prestigious editors of an era such as Diana Vreeland and Carrie Donovan.
Mentored in the early years by Glamour’s photographer Sante Forlano, Tracy saw his career take a different direction when he met his life-time friend fashion designer Stephen Burrows. They became “instant friends” as Tracy would say it. From then on, Tracy became Burrows’ photographer and grew in the industry. He started shooting Burrows’ work in different occasions, and became part of a prominent up-and-coming circle in the fashion industry.
Through common friend Joel Schumacher, Tracy had the golden opportunity to shoot Burrows for a Vogue article and meet the then-editor Carrie Donovan. Upon the success of the photo shoot and amazed by the quality of his work, Donavan started publishing Tracy’s work monthly for Vogue. After numerous photo shoots with Donovan, Tracy rose to international fame working for all major fashion publications and advertisement. It was only a matter of time that Tracy was photographing the most prominent international designers, attending the most exclusive fashion events, and working for the top names in the industry.
Retiring after years of accomplishments, Tracy never put away the camera. He started dedicating his time to other photography projects such as the nudes with chiffon. After developing the chiffon concept over years of experimentation and spontaneous results that evolved during photo shoots, Tracy developed a whole series of images. These images are his gift to the art world as seen in the faeries, statues, Grecian modern styles and fantasy vantage point of Charles Tracy.
