Continuing Success Year After Year…

Spotlight on Joe Mandaro

Scotto Brothers Executive Director of Corporate and Special Events

If you have ever planned a corporate event on Long Island, chances are you’ve worked with Joe Mandaro. As the executive director of corporate and special events for Scotto Brothers, his office is located at Chateau Briand Caterers in Carle Place. Joe has been in the catering industry for over 35 years and has loved every minute of it.

A graduate of C.W. Post and a theater arts major, Mandaro worked throughout college in the restaurant and catering business. In 1980, he launched his career with Scotto Brothers as the director of catering at Chateau Briand. Under the tutelage of owners Anthony and Victor Scotto, he moved on to become general manager of Westbury Manor. He continued his string of success working as a senior manager in the company, which includes Fox Hollow Restaurant and Caterers, and the opening of The Inn At Fox Hollow’s all-suite hotel in 2001. With each new position, Joe remained a leader in the industry, raising expectations for hospitality and service standards across Long Island and he continues to be the driving force behind the success of Scotto Brothers corporate events.
Times have changed, yet Mandaro remains consistent and always delivers on his philosophy: “Give people more than what they expect. Always deliver food made from the freshest ingredients and never settle for anything less than exceptional service.” He adds, “I love what I do and I make sure that each and every event is true to our clients’ expectations.”
While Joe makes it look effortless, he admits the true secret to success is to remain adaptable in times of uncertainty. “In today’s economic climate, it’s imperative that businesses are sensitive to their clients’ changing financial resources,” he says. “You have to be as business-considerate as possible. Remaining flexible is the key to good business.”
Maintaining a stellar reputation for delivering exceptional food and service, the catering maverick believes it takes something extra special to remain on top. “In this day and age, everyone is looking to do something different, so you have to be innovative. Chateau’s newest addition, our Outdoor Oasis, is exactly that – innovative and different. Swaying palm trees, cascading waterfalls, cabanas, pavilions, fire coves … where else will someone experience a corporate event or wedding like that on Long Island?”
Over the years, Joe has always given back to the community of Long Island and remains active with several not-for-profit and charitable organizations. He has received a certificate of merit from Chefs de Cuisine Association of America and the American Culinary Federation of Long Island. He’s been honored as Man of the Year by United Cerebral Palsy of Nassau County and Italian Americans in Government, and he’s been featured several times in the business section of Newsday.  Recently, he was named  “Who’s Who in Catering” by Long Island Business News.
Joe’s humor and quick one-liners have become trademarks of his personality. He injects passion and leadership throughout the building, and his clients always feel that they are part of the Scotto Brothers family. For 35 years, Mandaro has never lost sight of his goal and always delivers on his promise of exceptional service, quality and value.
